Fowler and Clark went to the clubhouse in California on Saturday on top of the 2023 U.S. Open leaderboard, tied at 10 under par. They held slim leads over Rory McIlroy (9 under) and Scottie Scheffler (7 under).

On the final hole of the day, Fowler had a chance to maintain sole possession of first with a putt inside 5 feet. He just missed and ended up making a bogey, dropping into the tie with Clark, who birdied the 18th.
