It's not often you see a professional golfer with tattoos. Well, ones that aren't hidden, that is.

The dress code for golf is strict, and athletes are required to represent themselves in a neat manner, ultimately limiting the amount of cuts and styles of pants or shirts that can be worn on the green.

The PGA Tour allows tattoos but, because of these clothing requirements, they often go unnoticed.

Rickie Fowler is one of the few golfers who has tattoos and shows them off. He has several scrawled on his hands and arms: small and sentimental mementos of people and events he has come across in his life. He has initials, names and signatures, but the most notable of his tattoos are his Olympic rings, which signify his trip to Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

Here's everything you need to know about Fowler's tattoos:

Rickie Fowler Olympic tattoo story

Fowler went to Rio de Janeiro for the Summer Olympics in 2016. Representing Team USA, he finished tied for 37th with Great Britain's Danny Willett, scoring an even-par 284 after four rounds.

The U.S. did manage to medal in golf that year, as Matt Kuchar finished 16 under par to bring home bronze. Other notable finishes for Americans in Rio include Bubba Watson (tied for eighth) and Patrick Reed (11th).

Fowler revealed his new ink after returning home from Rio after golf completed its competition at the 2016 Games. He got the tattoo with Sam Dorman, who earned silver for Team USA with Michael Hixon in the synchronized 3-meter springboard.

The two got new tattoos to commemorate their time in Brazil:

The block "G" on his elbow honors Georgia Veach, the daughter of Chad Veach, Fowler's friend and a pastor at The City Church in Seattle. Fowler revealed the work at the 2015 Presidents Cup. The PGA reported Fowler's tattoo honored Georgia, who was 4 months old when she was diagnosed with a rare brain disorder, lissencephaly (also known as "smooth brain").

The signature on Fowler's inner wrist is from his late coach, Barry McDonnell. He coached Fowler since he was a child in his hometown of Murrieta, Calif. He died at the age of 75 in 2011 from heart attack complications, according to the Golf Channel.

According to Body Art Guru, Fowler also has the Roman numeral "X V" and a cross on his fingers. The former reportedly is related to an anniversary with wife Allison Stokke — they were married on Oct. 5, 2019 — while the cross is representative of his Christian faith.
