Legalized sports betting has exploded onto the scene in the United States following the reversal of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA) in 2018. Since then, 33 states plus the District of Columbia have live and legal sports betting, with this number only increasing in the coming years.

Is sports betting legal in Montana?

Sports betting in Montana was legalized on May 3, 2019, when Governor Steve Bullock signed House Bill 0725 into law, authorizing sports wagering through the state's lottery. Sports betting officially launched in the state on March 11, 2020.

How do I bet on sports in Montana?

Montana sports betting allows users 18 and older to make in-person wagers at Montana Lottery kiosks scattered around the state. Since sports betting is run through the lottery, users in Montana do not have to be 21 to bet on sports.

While online sports betting is technically legal, users are not allowed to bet from the comfort of their own homes through the state's lone betting app, Sports Bet Montana. Users can create an account and deposit funds into Sports Bet Montana but must be physically located at a licensed location to wager on their phones.

Can I bet on college sports in Montana?

Montanans can wager on all licensed intercollegiate events with no restrictions. Bettors can wager on collegiate player props and futures for their favorite schools, as well.

Player props are bets on players' game performances, such as, “Will "x" score over/under 15.5 total points?” Popular futures bets include betting on your favorite D-1 college football program to go over their regular season win total or on their basketball program to win the NCAA Basketball Tournament.
