Is sports betting legal in South Dakota?

Sports betting in South Dakota was legalized on March 18, 2021 and officially launched on Sept. 9, 2021. Although online sports betting technically exists in the state, South Dakota sports betting mainly occurs on a retail-only basis.

The only way for South Dakotans to make online and mobile sports wagers is to venture to the state's commercial casinos in Deadwood.

How do I bet on sports in South Dakota?

South Dakota sports betting allows users over the age of 21 to make in-person wagers at commercial casinos in Deadwood, along with the state's tribal casinos.

Can I bet on college sports in South Dakota?

While bettors in South Dakota can wager on licensed intercollegiate events, users can't wager on in-state schools like the University of South Dakota and South Dakota State.  

South Dakotans are also prohibited from betting on player prop bets for collegiate athletes. Player props are bets on players' individual game performances, such as, “Will "x" throw for over/under 275.5 yards?”
