The 2023 U.S. Open comes to you straight from Beverly Hills, with the Los Angeles Country Club hosting the 123rd edition of the golf major. There are plenty of storylines fit for the silver screen entering this weekend.

LIVE: Follow U.S. Open leaderboard updates from Round 4

Off the course, it starts with the PGA Tour and LIV Golf deciding to put down the muskets and join forces in a merger that rocked the golf world. On the course, the schism may still live, though; Rory McIlroy is still clear on his hatred of LIV Golf, this coming after Brooks Koepka sealed the deal at the PGA Championship in May.

Elsewhere on the course, Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler continue to vie for the world No. 1 ranking. Rahm has cooled off since his epic Masters win, and Scheffler has some putting issues to work out — but he still holds the title of best in the world. At least, for now.

U.S. Open purse 2023

The prize money pool for the 2023 U.S. Open has yet to be unveiled, but expect it to be a sizable jump from the 2022 tournament. In 2022, the purse for the U.S. Open was set at $17.5 million, with $3.15 million heading to the winner, Matt Fitzpatrick.

For comparison, the 2023 Masters purse sat at $18 million, while the PGA Championship checked in at $17.5 million. Expect the U.S. Open purse to sit at or around those two numbers when the final figure is released.
