Legalized sports betting has exploded onto the scene in the United States following the reversal of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA) in 2018. Since then, 33 states plus the District of Columbia have legalized sports betting in some capacity, and this number is sure to increase in the coming years.

Is sports betting legal in Mississippi?

Sports betting became legalized in Mississippi in August 2018, which came off the heels of the PAPSA being reserved by the United States Supreme Court. Before Mississippi legalized sports betting, legislators passed HB 967 in 2017, which legalized daily fantasy sports inside the state. As of right now, the only online sportsbook available is BetMGM, but residents cannot place a wager unless at a licensed casino. There are also multiple casinos where residents can access DraftKings and Caesars Sportsbooks to do retail sports betting.

How do I bet on sports in Mississippi?

Mississippians must be 21 or older to bet on sports online or retail, but all legal sports bets must be made within state lines.

Mobile sportsbooks utilize geolocation to track your phone’s internal GPS chip. When betting online, users are prompted to download a plugin to make legalized bets. If making retail wagers, head to a Mississippi casino to make your bets in person.

Can I bet on college sports in Mississippi?

Yes, residents can bet on college sports, which includes the six D1 programs (Alcorn State, Jackson State, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and the University of Southern Mississippi). Mississippians can bet on individual games and place futures bets, such as will Ole Miss or Mississippi State win the SEC championship in college football or basketball.

Where can I bet on sports in Mississippi?

With one mobile sportsbook (BetMGM) within the state, bettors can only use the app at two casinos (Beau Rivage and Gold Strike). Mississippians can also use the Pearl River Sports app to make a wager, but they must be located at one of their three casinos (Bok Homa, Golden Moon, and Silver Star).
